FAQs

The Overland Kailash Mansarovar Yatra takes approximately 17 days, starting and concluding in Kathmandu, including travel, acclimatization, and spiritual Parikrama (circumambulation) around Mount Kailash. The itinerary is designed to make sure the pilgrims get enough acclimatization time at high-altitude conditions and can also accomplish the journey.

The best time to visit Kailash Mansarovar would be from May to September. During this season, the weather remains mostly peaceful and pleasant. During these months, Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar look beautiful under clear blue skies. This season also minimizes the possibility of disruption by snowfall or extreme cold.

It can be strenuous since most of the route is at high altitude, leading to AMS  and other fatigue. Yet, with good acclimatization and proper preparation and the help of the guide, most of the persons of average fitness can perform this yatra easily. We recommend consulting a doctor and doing physical training before the tour.

Accommodations vary from hotels in Kathmandu to guesthouses and basic lodges in remote areas. The facilities are extremely simple: shared rooms, high altitude with minimal facilities. It is recommended that the pilgrims carry essential items like sleeping bags for extra comfort.

Package Additional Details

Kailash Mansarovar yatra by overland starts from Kathmandu, you will travel by road throughout the journey.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a deeply spiritual journey that is bound to fill you with mesmerizing memories. This journey is not just about traveling but also about finding deep spiritual meaning in oneself. Why? It is because Mount Kailash is not just a mountain but also a symbol of faith and belief among four religions of the world – “Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon”. Followers of these religions believe that going on this journey cleanses your body and soul from the sins of the past and rejuvenates your body and soul.

Furthermore this mountain stands near the two significant lakes of Manasarovar and Rakshastal. As with Mount Kailash, both of these lakes hold deep religious and spiritual significance. While “Rakshastal” is somewhat seen with a darker aspect, this is balanced by the positive aspects of Lake Mansarovar, which is considered as the holy counterpart. It is believed that taking a dip in this lake cleanses your body and soul from the influence of evil. Because of this, Lake Mansarovar and Lake Rakshastal are seen to be the representation of the balance between good and evil.

While going on the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra By Overland package, you can visit all of these spiritual locations on foot while enjoying the stunning views of the mountains.

  • Traditional reception at Tribhuvan International Airport with overnight stay at a comfortable hotel.
  • Visit spiritual landmarks like Pashupatinath TempleBoudhanath Stupa, Budhanilkantha, and Swayambhunath Stupa.
  • Explore Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Dholeshwor Mahadev, and Dakshinkali Devi Temple, showcasing Nepal’s rich heritage.
  • Drive through Syabrubesi and cross the Nepal-Tibet border at Kerung, entering the stunning Tibetan plateau.
  • Witness the grandeur of Lalung La Pass (5,300m), Mount Shishapangma (8,000m), and the vast Tibetan landscapes.
  • Perform sacred rituals and Parikrama at Mansarovar Lake, a spiritual centerpiece of the Yatra.
  • Trek through Yama Dwar, Dolma La Pass (5,700m), and Zutulphuk, with awe-inspiring views of Mount Kailash and Gaurikund.
  • Experience Tibetan culture, Buddhist traditions, and group prayers at sacred sites.
  • Stay in well-organized mud houses, guesthouses, and hotels for rest and rejuvenation.
  • Safe and efficient transportation, including helicopter and private vehicles, guided by professional support teams.

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra By Overland is a tough journey that includes trekking through rough terrain. Therefore, you need to be in good physical condition to go on this journey. However, despite it being a tough journey, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra By Overland is a rewarding journey on its own. This journey fills you with deep spiritual fulfillment and cultural immersion, along with the views of the breathtaking natural beauty as you walk alongside the lush landscapes towards the most remote and scenic regions of the Tibetan area.

During the journey, you can also expect visits to the Tibetan monasteries after trekking through some of the rugged areas. That said, do note that you may face altitude sickness as you visit the monasteries because they are rather at high altitude areas of the Tibetan region. This is especially so during your travel through the Dolma La Pass area, which is over 5,600 meters above sea level.

One of the key achievements in the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by Overland journey is passing through the Dolma La Pass. This pass lies at an altitude of 5,636 meters and is one of the defining features of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. It is also known as a sacred threshold in Tibetan Buddhism, and it represents the aspect of spiritual rebirth. Passing through this pass is known to bless you with lord Tara and cleanse your sins. Dolma La Pass is marked by the prayer flags and pilgrims along the way, which adds to the profound energy of the place.

Trekking to this region typically lasts on the second day of the Kailash Kora, but in our case, it is on the thirteenth day and is only a passing checkpoint. Regardless, it is still a challenging test of endurance and the journey starts from Dirapuk Monastery. You walk through the rocky terrain and thin air, which requires you to have decent physical strength and mental resilience. The good news here is that your effort is rewarded with stunning views of the humbling mountains as you pass through this pass.

Needless to say, conquering this tough pass is a spiritual triumph on its own which transcends the physical challenges. The conquest offers you a deep sense of accomplishment, divine blessings, and a connection with the sacred self. Completing the challenging journey past Dolma La Pass is a testament to your faith, devotion, and the enduring power of the human spirit.
